The proscenium stage inside the medium-sized hall at the Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center -- intended to serve as home for opera and ballet -- will be named the Peter Family Stage after the parents of donor Annette Peter Neel, who gave $1 million toward construction of the building.

Neel's parents, Doris and Asher Peter, were longtime Orlando arts enthusiasts. Asher Peter was a real-estate agent who founded Woodlawn Cemetery.

"This area has been good to us, and we wanted to show our gratitude," Neel said.

The 1,700-seat hall, which will be named by Walt Disney World Company in recognition of its $12.5-million gift, will be able to be transformed from a proscenium theater to an acoustically sound symphony hall by using hydraulics to move the stage, floor and walls.

Previously announced named gifts include the center itself, thanks to a $25-million gift from Dr. Phillips Charities; the Bill and Mary Darden Box Office, because of a $1-million gift from Darden Restaurants; and the Richard Kessler Hospitality Suite, because of a $1-million gift from Kessler.
